J W BENSON TROPICAL SMITHS WITH THE CORRECT PATTERN DIAL FOR THE '53 HIMALAYAN EXPEDITION DATE MECHANISM This From 1961This is an interesting watch in that Smiths seem to have allocated the dial design to J W Benson, that was actually used by E. Hillary on the Everest expedition, the seconds track is a unique pattern to the Everest watches, and you cant seem to find it on a Smiths signed product. The dial is tropical as they now say or evenly toned, and the case top has suffered as usual. This is the type of Dennison Aquatite with the signature inside. 33. 5mm case
