As a child, I fondly remember the luncheonette in Beacon, NY, established by my Grandfather and later run by my father. This 50s style restaurant, Charkalis Restaurant, was where I first experienced the joy of hand pumped cola syrup mixed with soda water. My grandfather introduced me to the delightful Cherry Cola, stirring it quickly with a long spoon, and sometimes adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top for an
