Examples of the figures are shown above. There were 38 regiments battalions of Irish Militia of various strengths at the time of the 1798 Uprising. They were termed a battalion if 6 companies or less, and a regiment if 7 Companies or more. Regiments had both a grenadier and a light company; battalions had one or the other. Companies were usually scattered on garrison duty.
