I clearly underrated the 1994 from my earliest barrel tastings

A much more floral-inflected nose is equally fresh and ripe with a broader range of spice elements adding breadth to the pretty red and blue pinot fruit aromas that are trimmed in noticeable if not invasive wood

and a blockbuster finish

The old vines are very much in evidence as there is a true abundance of palate soaking dry extract that imparts a velvety mouth feel to the mid-palate and buffers the very firm tannins on the youthfully austere

culminating in a slightly austere and ever-so-mildly dry finish of solid though not exceptional persistence
