Most smoking attributable fractions will be zero in that smoking is not implicated in any way for that underlying cause of death, but deaths with an underlying cause for a smoking-related condition (such as lung cancer or COPD) will have a smoking attributable fraction higher than zero and that fraction is likely to differ for men and women, and for different age groups
