Eleanor Lutz: A Map of the Moon Poster Size:XXL - 140 x 100cm A Conversation Piece That MattersA Map of the Moon by Eleanor Lutz The Moon probably formed about 4. 5 billion years ago when a Mars sized object impacted the Earth. The Moon is tidally locked to the Earth, so the near side always faces the Earth. THE SURFACE OF THE MOON: The near and far sides of the moon are dramatically different, featuring dark plains and maria on the near side and highlands on the far side.
