Common uses are either to allow sea water in e. g. for engine cooling or to let water out e. g. waste water drains. They are also widely known as through hull (or thru hull) fittings. These skin fittings are made from marine grade, AISI 316 stainless steel. Stainless steel has superb corrosion resistance properties, so these fittings are suitable for through hull
